11/28/2008:

The Chicago Hilal Committee, 2008 has decided that tomorrow, Saturday, November 29 will be the 1st of Dhul-Hijjah based on an authentic moon sighting report from Port Charlotte, Florida. Dhul-Qadah, 1429 will end with 29 days and Dhul-Hijjah began tonight at Maghrib on Friday, November 28, 2008. The report was validated by several reknowned scholars as well as an expert astronomer.

Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday, December 8, 2008 (Dhul-Hijjah 10, 1429). The Chicago Hilal Committee wishes everyone an early Happy Eid.

11/25/2008:

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, November 28, 2008 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1429) at the Islamic Center of Chicago after Maghrib (4:30pm CST) to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the date of Eid-ul-Adha. Insha'Allah, the final decision will be posted sometime before the end of the night.

If the moon is sighted on Friday, November 28, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Saturday, November 29th. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday, December 8, 2008. If the moon is not sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

11/25/2008:

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, November 28, 2008 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1429) at the Islamic Center of Chicago after Maghrib (4:30pm CST) to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the date of Eid-ul-Adha. Insha'Allah, the final decision will be posted sometime before the end of the night.

If the moon is sighted on Friday, November 28, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Saturday, November 29th. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday, December 8, 2008. If the moon is not sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

10/29/2008:

The Chicago Hilal Committee did not receive any authentic moon sighting report from anywhere in North America on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 (Shawwal 29, 1429). As such, Shawwal will complete its course of 30 days and Dhul-Qadah will begin at Maghrib on Thursday, October 30, 2008. The first day of Dhul-Qadah will be on Friday, October 31, 2008.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, November 28, 2008 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1429) to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the date of Eid-ul-Adha. If the moon is sighted on Friday, November 28, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Saturday, November 29th. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday, December 8, 2008. If the moon is not sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

09/30/2008:

8:10pm:

The Chicago Hilal Committee received an authentic moon sighting report from Port Charlotte, Florida. Nearly 10 men witnessed the hilal, including several scholars and huffaz.

The Chicago Hilal Committee's meeting is in session. We are beginning to contact our representatives through out North America for moon sighting reports. We will post more information as it becomes available. Please check back for periodic updates.

09/29/2008:

InshAllah, the Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Islamic Center of Chicago to determine the end of Ramadan and the date of Eid-ul-Fitr (Shawwal 1, 1429). There will be periodic updates on this site after Maghrib prayer (6:39pm CDT). The first update will be posted around 7:15pm CDT.

Eid-ul-Fitr 1429 will be on either Wednesday, October 1st or Thursday, October 2nd.

09/01/2008:

The Chicago Hilal Committee did not receive any authentic moon sighting report from anywhere in the United States on Sunday, August 31, 2008 (Shaban 29, 1429). As such, the committee concluded at 10:10pm CDT that Shaban would finish its cycle of 30 days and Ramadan would begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

InshAllah, the Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Islamic Center of Chicago to determine the end of Ramadan and the date of Eid-ul-Fitr (Shawwal 1, 1429). According to astronomical data, the moon is expected to be sighted on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 and Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be Wednesday, October 1, 2008.

Here are some dates to keep in mind:

1st Night of Ramadan = Monday, September 1, 2008
Ramadan 1, 1429 = Tuesday, September 2, 2008
Itikaf Begins = Sunday, September 21, 2008
Ramadan 29, 1429 = September 30, 2008
Shawwal 1, 1429 (Eid-ul-Fitr) = Wednesday, October 1, 2008 or Thursday, October 2, 2008

The Chicago Hilal Committee did not receive any authentic moon sighting report from anywhere in the United States. As such, Shaban will finish its cycle of 30 days and Ramadan will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Sunday, August 31, 2008 (Shaban 29, 1429) at the Islamic Center of Chicago after Maghrib (7:29pm CDT). Insha'Allah, updates are expected to be made every 10-15 minutes beginning at 8:00pm. The 1st of Ramadan will either be Monday, September 1st or Tuesday, September 2nd.

08/02/2008:

Saturday night 08/02/2008 & Sunday 08/03/2006 is Shaban 1, 1429
The Chicago Hilal Committee has confirmed that there was no moon sighting across the United States on Friday, August 1, 2008 (Rajab 29, 1429). Consequently, Rajab will complete its full cycle of 30 days and the the first day of Shaban will be on Sunday, August 3, 2008.

7/04/2008:

Thursday night 07/03/2008 & Friday 07/04/2008 is Rajab 1, 1429.
The Chicago Hilal Team received authentic moon sighting reports from various locations in the Bay Area, California on Thursday, July 3, 2008 (Juma'ada al-Thani 29, 1429). Consequently, Juma'ada al-Thani will finish with 29 days and Rajab began at Maghrib on July 3, 2008. The first day of Rajab corresponds with Friday, July 4, 2008.

6/04/2008:

Wednesday night 06/04/2008 & Thursday 06/05/2008 is Juma'ada al-Thani 1, 1429.
The Chicago Hilal Team received authentic moon sighting reports from Chicago, Illinois, Atlanta, Georgia and Florida on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 (Juma'ada al-Awwal 29, 1429). Consequently, Juma'ada al-Awwal will finish with 29 days and Juma'ada al-Thani will begin at Maghrib on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. The first day of Juma'ada al-Thani will correspond with Thursday, June 5, 2008.

5/06/2008:

Tuesday night 05/06/2008 & Wednesday 05/07/2008 is Juma'ada al-Awwal 1, 1429
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Juma'ada al-Awwal. There were no valid reports of moon sighting anywhere in the United States. Consequently, Rabi-al-Thani completed its full cycle of 30 days, and Juma'ada al-Awwal began at Maghrib on May 6, 2008. The 1st of Juma'ada al-Awwal is Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

4/08/2008:

Sunday night 04/06/2008 & Monday 04/07/2008 is Rabi-al-Thani 1, 1429.
The Chicago Hilal Team received an authentic moon sighting report from Austin, Texas on Sunday, April 6, 2008 (Rabi-al-Awwal 29, 1429). Consequently, Rabi-al-Awwal will finish with 29 days and Rabi-al-Thani will begin at Maghrib on Sunday, April 6, 2008. The first day of Rabi-al-Thani will correspond with Monday, April 7, 2008.

3/09/2008:

Saturday night 03/08/2008 & Sunday 03/09/2008 is Rabi-al-Awwal 1, 1429
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Rabi-al-Awwal, 1429. There were no valid reports of moon sighting anywhere in the United States. Consequently, Safar completed its full cycle of 30 days, and Rabi-al-Awwal began at Maghrib on March 8, 2008. The 1st of Rabi-al-Awwal is Sunday, March 9, 2008.

2/08/2008:

Thursday night 02/07/2008 & Friday 02/08/2008 is Safar 1, 1429.
The Chicago Hilal Team received an authentic moon sighting report from San Francisco, California on Thursday, February 7, 2008 (Muharram 29, 1429). Consequently, Muharram will finish with 29 days and Safar will begin at Maghrib on Thursday, February 7, 2008. The first day of Safar will correspond with Friday, February 8, 2008.

1/09/2008:

Wednesday night 01/09/2008 & Thursday 01/10/2008 is Muharram 1, 1429.
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Muharram and the year 1429. Based on deliberations that confirmed moon sighting, Dhul-Hijjah ended with 29 days and Muharram began on Wednesday, the 9th of January at Maghrib (sunset). Thus, the Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Muharram. There were confirmed sighting reports in Teaneck, NJ, Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL.

The Chicago Hilal Team wishes everyone a happy new year and prays that the new year is filled with immense blessings from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
